What exactly is Ples sa zvijezdama?
Ples sa zvijezdama, meaning "Dancing with the Stars," is the Croatian adaptation of a widely known international dance competition format. Each pair performs choreographed routines in styles like waltz, tango, salsa, and jive during live broadcasts. The competition runs weekly, combining the glamour of celebrity culture with the skill and artistry of dance, making it both accessible and engaging for a broad audience. For example, a popular actor might be paired with a professional dancer to learn and perform a salsa routine, showcasing personal growth and entertainment value.
Who takes part and how does the competition work?
The contestants are mostly Croatian celebrities, many of whom have little or no prior dance experience. They are matched with professional dancers who train them and design the choreography. Each episode features performances from all couples, which are scored by a panel of judges who evaluate technique, creativity, and entertainment quality. Viewers also vote for their favorite pairs via phone or online platforms. The final result each week combines judges’ scores and audience votes to decide which couple is eliminated. This structure balances expert assessment with public opinion, keeping the competition lively and interactive.
