Wichita man accused of threatening to kidnap, kill city’s mayor

A Wichita, Kansas male who hated his city’s confront mask mandate was arrested Friday night time for allegedly threatening to kidnap and murder the mayor, a report mentioned.

Meredith Dowty, 59, was busted for the alleged threats against Wichita’s Mayor Brandon Whipple, the Kansas Town Star noted.

Dowty, a well-known area musician and retired city firefighter, texted the danger to another metropolis formal, the mayor explained to the Star.

“He explained he was heading to kidnap me and slash my throat,”  the mayor alleged of Dowty.

“And he desired my tackle since I essential to see the hangman — me and everybody who —  one thing about tyranny,” Whipple said.

Law enforcement confirmed Dowty’s arrest to the newspaper and stated he could experience a felony risk cost.

“It sounded like the human being was very upset about fairly much mask mandates and he explained one thing about not getting in a position to see his mom simply because of COVID constraints on aged residences,” Whipple said of Dowty.

“This wasn’t just some man popping off on social media,” Whipple explained.

“He contacted someone that knows where I live that apparently he believed would give him my tackle.”

Wichita’s mask ordinance, championed by the mayor, demands experience coverings be worn in most general public settings, the newspaper claimed.
